About the Avenues TMO:

Overview
Located north east of the town centre at Brownhills and at the edge of the borough boundary with Staffordshire, the Avenues TMO is a pre-war estate of around 200 family homes.  The TMO backs onto Holland Park playing fields and is a short distance from the high street shopping area of Brownhills.

What we do
The TMO carries out the full range of housing services including allocations/lettings, repairs, environmental improvements, tenancy and estate management and housing advice. We also try to build community spirit by running social activities and providing facilities for the children who live on the estate.

Our properties
The Avenues is an estate of just over 200 three bedroom houses built in the 1920s. Around 70 of these houses have been bought under the Right to Buy.

Our residents
The residents of the Avenues are a mixture of young families and mature single people and couples, many of whom have lived in the Brownhills area all their lives.

Our approach
The Avenues TMO is dedicated to the creation of a pleasant and popular housing estate by building a strong and stable community.
It gives a high priority to improving the estate’s environment and security and to eradicating nuisance and anti-social behaviour.

Background
The Avenues Residents Association was formed in 1993 to reverse the decline that had occurred in the estate during the previous 20 years and to secure investment for the homes. Unfortunately, the Association was not able to achieve much because it did not have any real control of the running of the estate.

In 1995 a Tenant Management Organisation Steering Committee was formed with a view to taking over the management of the estate through the Right to Manage. With the support of Birmingham Co-operative Housing Services the members of the group received training and negotiated a management agreement with the Council. Local tenants voted overwhelmingly in favour of the TMO and they took over management in August 1999.

Since then the Avenues TMO have made major improvements on the estate; improving security, enhancing the environment reducing void properties and building up a waiting list of people who want to live on the estate. In addition to the management allowances paid by the Council, the TMO has been successful in attracting funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Co-operation Black Country, New Deal and SRB.

You can find us just of the B5011 Chase Road. If you are coming from the A5, take the third turning on the right and follow the estate  road round to the right going from Fourth Avenue to Third Avenue to Second Avenue. We are at the end of Second Avenue on the right-hand side.
