At WATMOS we take reports of domestic abuse very seriously. The following information explains who can be affected, the different types of abuse that can take place and what support is available.
What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse, can include the following:
-
Coercive control
-
Psychological or emotional abuse
-
Physical or sexual abuse
-
Financial or economic abuse
-
Harassment and stalking or
-
Online or digital abuse .
In the majority of cases domestic abuse is carried out by a partner or ex-partner, but it could also be carried out by a family member or carer. It can happen to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or woman, in a same sex relationship, your age or your ethnicity. Often, domestic abuse is carried out by a man towards a woman, but men can be victims as well.
If you are living in a W ATMOS home and experiencing domestic abuse, we can support you in confidence and work in partnership with other agencies to help keep you safe.
We understand that reporting abuse may be difficult and frightening. Every domestic abuse case is different so we will work with you to support you and discuss the options you have available.
