Thriving Community Garden Through Grow Back Greener Project

Grow Back Greener April marks the first anniversary of our Grow Greener project.

Over the last year, our local residents at Ethelred estate in Lambeth have been involved in planting flowers and growing a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs in their community garden – its now thriving.

What has been the fruits of our volunteers’ efforts? Produce from the garden includes chards, tomatoes, chillies, radishes, rhubarbs, corn cobs, carrots, rosemary, oregano, lemon balm and more. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s what some local residents have shared about their experience:

“Ethelred estate is much more beautiful now with so many more plants, flowers, herbs and fruit bushes.”

“GBG sessions were the only social interactions we had during Covid time.”

Our Grow Back Greener project has helped to improve the biodiversity and air quality in the natural surroundings at Ethelred estate. The project has also developed gardening skills amongst our local residents, provided education into healthy eating, created a strong sense of belonging and unity and provided free access to local, sustainable organic food for everyone. It has also created employment for a local resident, Cherri, who has been working in Community Engagement for Watmos Community Homes.

To take this initiative further, we hope to bring healthy cookery lessons for residents so they can take the food they eat from garden to fork.

Grow Back Greener We’re striving for fresh, organic, local produce to create healthy, sustainable and environmentally-friendly food for our community and future.

We would like to say a special THANK YOU to everyone involved in making this project a huge success and we are grateful for the support of our sponsor Incredible Edible Lambeth who share our commitment to build healthier communities.

For you. For better. For all, together.
