Walsall Daytrips

Thanks to help from Watmos with first aid-training and DBS checks, resident-volunteers are running estate daytrips. And they are proving popular. 
Community Engagement Officer, Sharday Hodges, says: “In hard and unpredictable times, being able to reduce the cost of a family day can bring relief to many families. As well as being great fun, daytrips also let children and young adults see more of the fantastic things this country has to offer.” 
Here is a round-up of Walsall residents’ Spring excursions, including Chuckery’s wild time at Dudley Zoo, Twin Crescents’ daytrip to Liverpool, and the Burrowes Street Gardeners’ trek to - you guessed it - Hollybush garden centre.

In April, 120 Chuckery residents set off for an unforgettable visit to Dudley Zoo. They got up close to some of the world’s rarest animals, from Arctic Foxes to Sloths and Wolverines. After a walkabout, the group got together for picnics in the restaurant. 
Chuckery residents, Phil Cooper and Sarah Read organised the day and applied to Watmos for funding. Sarah was glad to hear kids on the estate still talking about the trip weeks later.

The Burrowes Street Allotment Group welcomed Spring with a visit to much-loved Hollybush Garden Centre. It was a relaxing and inspiring visit, and I enjoyed supporting them on the day - taking in the sights and sounds among the flowers, shrubs and reptiles. Fully inspired, we shared gardening ideas over a delicious lunch in the café, before heading home with help from West Midlands Community Transport.

Twin Crescents daytrip to Liverpool

One Saturday morning at 8 o’ clock, a coach set off from Pelsall to the home of original day-trippers, the Beatles. Fans of the fab four hit the Cavern Club, while others took a magical mystery tour around the arcades and museums, until it was time to come together and get back home.  
Volunteer, Jennifer Davies Everall, says: ‘It was fantastic! There’s so much to do in Liverpool, and it was lovely to see everyone having such a great time.” More trips are coming soon for residents, friends and families.
